The Canal Street Line traces its origins to horse-drawn streetcar service dating back to June 1861. In the early 1930’s the streetcars became electric powered. From 1934 to 1950, there were two electric streetcar lines running on Canal Street: the West-End Streetcars and the Cemeteries Streetcars.
